My art begins in clay—earth-born, hand-shaped, alive under my fingers—and is transformed by fire into vessels of memory, presence, and spirit. Using my signature horsehair raku technique, I capture the essence of a beloved horse in fleeting carbonized streaks, each mark a moment of fire made tangible.
Sculpting from life—human or animal—draws me into close observation, honoring subtle gestures, the flow of muscle, and the quiet rhythm of breath. I strive not merely for likeness, but for essence, creating sculptures that are intimate records of time, motion, and individuality.
Fire is both partner and alchemist, shaping surfaces in ways I could never design. I embrace its unpredictability, allowing chance and intention to dance together, celebrating imperfection and transience as part of each piece’s beauty.
Every work I create is a dialogue—between earth, fire, human, and animal, hand and clay, light and shadow. Each vessel or sculpture is a one-of-a-kind testament to presence, memory, and the quiet poetry of the natural world. I hope those who encounter my work feel the warmth of fire, the pulse of life, and the enduring spirit it honors.
